Melissa Layer, MA, LMHC-A is an integrative psychotherapist and interfaith spiritual director living and working in Olympia. She holds graduate degrees in transpersonal psychology from the Institute for Transpersonal Psychology in California and counseling psychology from Saint Martin’s University. She has served for over 30 years in nonprofit, educational and healthcare settings. Her work as a hospice bereavement coordinator with Assured Hospice, as well as faculty member/group facilitator for cancer retreats with Harmony Hill (Union) and Pink Lemonade (Portland), and facilitation of community grief support groups have taught her about the compelling opportunities for life review and meaning-making in these potent threshold experiences. Utilizing expressive arts and a commitment to compassionate presence and deep listening, Melissa maintains a small private practice and enjoys workshop presentations, teaching, and group/retreat facilitation.
