Trainer(s): Scott Michael, Ph.D.

Trauma can impact the way people see the world, themselves and others in many ways and yet research and clinical experience shows that common patterns often emerge that the adept clinician can identify. Further, the nature of military training and the kinds of traumatic experiences many of our nation’s Veterans experience also lead to common patterns of trauma-related thoughts. This training will help the clinician learn how to identify these patterns and use cognitive therapies such as Cognitive Processing Therapy to help Veterans learn how to mediate the effects of these thoughts on their lives.

Training for Mental & Behavioral Health Professionals: This workshop is open to professionals with mental and behavioral health-related graduate degrees (e.g., MSW, MA, MS, MSN), physicians, dentists, and psychologists (e.g., AMA, ADA, APA), and social service providers. Graduate students in an accredited mental or behavioral health program may also participate in this training.

  1. Learn to better recognize common patterns of Veteran PTSD-related thoughts
  2. Use cognitive therapy techniques to mediate PTSD-related thoughts
  3. Learn approaches to effective facilitation of alternative thinking strategies for Veteran patients
