Details: This workshop gives service providers and community members an introduction to the culture of the armed forces and the types of experiences that have molded the veterans we serve. We will cover the basics of armed service branches, rank structure, chain of command, and military values. This workshop is intended for anyone with an interest in learning more about military culture as well as those who have lived experience and wish to contribute to the collective knowledge.
Objectives: Describe the military indoctrination process and how it is designed to resocialize the new recruit Discuss the variety of experiences possible in uniformed service Recognize the strengths and positive attributes veterans bring to civil society from the military Collect resources for future self-study of military culture and veteran experiences Apply an increased knowledge of military culture to professional practice working with veterans
