Details:

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been called the “signature injury” of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has been estimated that approximately 20% of Veterans who were deployed to Iraq and/or Afghanistan sustained at least one mild TBI (mTBI), and many individuals sustained multiple mTBI’s over the course of one or more deployments. This presentation will address several topics related to TBI, including diagnostic criteria, factors that can contribute to persisting symptoms, and treatment options for cognitive difficulties.

Objectives:

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define the three levels of severity of traumatic brain injury (mild, moderate, severe) and common symptom patterns after this type of injury
  • Understand the overlap between post-concussive symptoms and symptoms associated with psychiatric conditions such as PTSD and depression
  • Understand cognitive compensatory strategies that can be used by Veteran’s with persisting cognitive difficulties
  • Cost: Free!

Parking: Ample on-street parking is available at or near the 2100 Building
