Details:

The half-day safeTALK training program equips participants with four basic steps to connect people at risk of suicide to life-saving resources. This safeTALK workshop is customized to meet the needs of professionals and members of the general public working with military members, veterans, and/or their family members (including adolescent military dependents). There are 20 suicides on average among U.S. veterans every day.The safeTALK workshop invites participants to become more alert to the possibility of suicide and how to prevent it. Suicide-alert people are better prepared to connect persons with thoughts of suicide with life-affirming help.

This workshop is open to the public: safeTALK meets the Washington DoH legislative mandate for ESHB 2366, RCW 43.70.442 & Professional Educators Standard Board, for the following occupations:

Over the course of their training, safeTALK participants will learn the following within a cultural context:

  1. Notice and respond to situations where suicide thoughts may be present
  2. Recognize that invitations for help are often overlooked
  3. Move beyond the common tendency to miss, dismiss, and avoid suicide
